
BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE BY BUILDING GREEN
Whenever possible this is an important goal at BMY Construction Group, Inc.
At BMY we accomplish that goal by utilizing over 80 years of shared
construction experience among its principals. One of those results
has been construction by BMY of the first LEED (Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design) registered project in the San Joaquin
Valley, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fresno. BMY HAS TAKEN
THE LEAD IN LEED. We welcome the responsibility to do our share in
improving and protecting our environment through efficient use of
resources.
Optimum goals to BUILD GREEN are achieved through a collaborative effort
among the Owner, Designer and Builder (BMY). Through this process
the following resulted in this pioneering project:

- Photo voltaic solar system
- Energy use 33.5% below Title-24 standard, making it one of the most energy-efficient buildings in PG&E’s service area.
- Monetary Recognition from PG&E
- Water use 43% less than ASHRAE standard
- 100% of construction waste diverted from landfill
- 14 mature trees retained on site
- Heat Island mitigation with “cool” roof and shaded parking
- Thermal comfort for occupants
- Use of low-VOC materials
- Recycled materials
- Bamboo Flooring
- Drought resistant plants
- Moved existing house to the front of to use as office space, nursery, and storage
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Fresno is:
- The FIRST LEED registered church project in the Fresno area.
- The FIRST LEED registered church project in California
- The THIRD such project in the United States
- Is the pilot commercial project for the City of Fresno’s “Fresno Green” green building incentive program
- Received an incentive award for $18,000 from PG&E under their “Savings by Design” program
- Was a finalist in the Fresno Business Journal’s annual Real Estate Awards and the only Gold recipient in the “Green Project” category
- Was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for building green from the Pacific Central District of the Unitarian Universalist Association
- Is the recipient of the first 2008 Clean Air Champion Award from the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District

BMY CONSTRUCTION GROUP, INC. CONTINUES TO BUILD GREEN TODAY by constructing a new facitlity for the San Joaquin River Parkway & Conservation Trust, Inc. (River Parkway Trust).
River Parkway Trust is a non-profit, public benefit corporation that was created to establish
a continuous greenway along 33 miles of river in the fast growing Fresno-Madera region. In partnership with state and federal
agencies and local governments, the River Parkway Trust has been successful in protecting land and wildlife habitat restoration.
In addition, the River Parkway Trust provides outdoor education programs for school children and recreational opportunities
for the community.
DESIGN FEATURES INCLUDE:

- Water Run-Off – the parking lot will be permeable compacted road
base with minimal concrete for Collected roof run off is recovered via implementation of a gravel encased perforated drain
at eave-drip-edge, connection to the existing site drainage system which outlets to an on-site drainage basin.
- HVAC
- Lighting – interior lighting shall be mainly provided by T5HO fixtures combined with compact fluorescent and
low-voltage fixtures. Exterior lighting shall be mainly provided by LED fixtures combined with compact fluorescent.
- Non-Toxic Materials utilized throughout
- Urea – formaldehyde-free Materials unutilized throughout
- Low Toxicity Chemicals utilized throughout
- All roof and wall cavity insulation shall be “ultra touch” insulation made from recycled blue jean material.
- Make-up air – operable windows in offices
- Foundation – 25% of Portland cement in concrete mix shall be replaced with fly-ash
- Metal Roofing
- Salvaged/Recycled Wood

As of August 2008 BMY is going to be involved in another
LEED Certified project, The First Christian Church of Selma.
This will be BMY’s 2nd project that will be fully
